XBOX 360=Dreamcast 2.0?: "Tenken writes '1UP has an eye opening article on the many similarities between the XBOX 360 and the Dreamcast. It's actually pretty scary, case in point: both consoles launched a year before their major competitors, and even their logos are incredibly similar. The article also goes on to mention why the 360 will not fail miserably like the Dreamcast. '"

YouTube Receives $3.5M Funding from Sequoia: "An anonymous reader writes 'YouTube, the self-described 'Flickr of video' has now received $3.5M in funding from Sequoia Capital, the same VC firm that funded Yahoo!, Google, and PayPal. Google Reader - Some of you may already know about this but Google has brought out another beta product from their labs people. It allows you to read RSS Feeds within your browser. It works great with Firefox, i'm not sure about I.E though and what the testing functionality is like with that.

MIT's Wireless Map

MIT unwired last month when Information Services & Technology installed the last of 2,800 wireless access points, making the MIT campus one of the largest geographic entities -- about 9.4 million square feet -- served by a single wireless network.

Blanket wireless service is reason enough to celebrate on a campus where most of the 10,000 students own laptop computers and many work into the not-so-wee hours of the morning. IS&T and the MIT Museum are commemorating the achievement with an exhibition called "iSpots," which features three electronic real-time maps of campus wireless use projected onto large Plexiglas rectangles that appear to float in the room.

UBS thinks Intel Apples due in January: "

UBS thinks Apple’s got strong offerings in their current iPod lineup and with the new iMac they’re pimping, sure, but what’s interesting is that their Semiconductor Research Team believes an Intel-based Mac mini could be due as early as Macworld in January — but they’re still holding fast to late 2006 / early 2007 estimates for the arrival of the first Intel PowerBooks and Power Macs. Of course we’d be in a slight bit of trouble if we took every analyst’s report as god’s honest truth, but it’s not without the realm of possibility, and it’s certainly not like people aren’t chomping at the bit for Intel Macs. Oh, and did we mention that last week Apple officially versioned the x86 port OS X to match the latest version of PowerPC OS X, 10.4.3?

Apple Aperture for Pro Photographers: "Apple has today announced Aperture, a new digital photography workflow, organization and manipulation application aimed specifically at professional photographers. Aperture includes advanced RAW workflow, a unique user interface and an interesting feature called Stacks, which groups images together based on the time differential between shots. In addition Apple has also announced new Powerbook models, a new quad processor Power Mac and lower prices on its Cinema HD displays."

Ebay: Extremely Rare "Mac Gamers" Leather Jacket: "Filed under: Odds and endsBack in 1996, the Apple Game Sprockets team had made a set of leather jackets to promote the Mac as a 'Serious Game Machine.' The jackets cost about $500 apiece and came embroidered with a custom camouflage Apple logo with target and weaponry. These are extremely rare as only 20 of them were made. And, now fellow Mac geeks, you too can bid on a unique piece of Mac nostalgia.

I generally don't lust after Apple and Mac schwag, but in this case I'll make an exception. Drool.

Gates Feeling a Little Seasick: "Microsoft's chairman braces his top execs for a 'sea change' in the tech industry, saying that they will have to change with the times to stave off competition from leaner, hungrier companies."

The History of the Mac OS: "Filed under: Cult of Mac, Odds and endsHow I love a good stroll down memory lane, even if the memories aren't mine. I believe I have mentioned before that my first Mac ran OS 8/6 (yes, a blueberry iMac lured me into the Mac fold, and look at me now!), however, I know that there are many TUAWer's out that there were using Macs before they were even Macs.

A Mac Genius has a fun article detailing the history of the various OS's from System 1 to Mac OS x 10.4. You're sure to learn a thing or two about a Mac operating system long lost in the mists of the technological past.

If you have a hankering for knowing what exactly was updated in System 3.2 head on over to A Mac Genius, though there does seem to be some controversy as to whether Apple officially released an OS known as System 5, or if 'System 5' was simply a codename for System 4.x.

Are you a Switcher? I was in 2004. Best thing I've ever done computer related!

Quote of the Day: I'm yet to see someone walking around with a Windows logo T-shirt.

I finally saw Shaun of the Dead on Monday night... It has almost the whole entire cast of Black Books in it. Even the main guy Shuan who is the manager of the Goliath Books shop next to Black Books! His character is fucking gold in Black Books and also Shaun of the Dead. Probably the best bit in the movie is when he has to plane out the killing of his step father... Worth checking out for sure. Don't use the Z word!

Wolf Creek This movie is worth checking out if you can. 4 out of 5 for it's sheer madness and comedy!
